Make it Bigger!

I held off writing a long reflection of my year, but I thought I’d dump some thoughts here alongside the release of my year(ish) of seconds.

I began this project in Barcelona on December 15, 2012 after watching this TED talk by Cesar Kuriyama on Hostel One’s incredible WiFi. It’s been a ride, and it’s incredible to see the result after a year of recording. I’ll admit I missed a handful of days, but I tried my best.

In short list form (in no particular order) the following events happened with great support from my friends and family:

    • Celebrate the addition of Lucy to the family!
    • Produce a Bollywood short film with UC Dhadak
    • Witness above dance team win a national championship
    • Travel to Europe
    • Travel across the US (Atlanta, Chicago, Austin, San Antonio, New York City, Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami)
    • See Antelope Canyon, Zion National Park, and the Milky Way Galaxy
    • Travel across Honduras and Chile
    • Shoot more weddings than I could have imagined in 2012 (blog posts to come!)
    • Graduate
    • Obtain full-time employment
    • Find great housing and vehicular transportation
    • Reconnect with some great old friends
    • Make some amazing new friends
    • Collaborate with some ridiculously talented people
    • Deadlift 315 pounds
    • Learn to swim

It was a long list.  It was a great year.  I owe a lot to everyone around me that pushes me beyond my comfort zone.

My greatest takeaway from 2013 is likely the Build-Measure-Learn loop (PDCA for my Toyota friends). The article and concept may seem purely about tech app development – but let’s just extrapolate far beyond that. Life’s about continuous improvement, and I like that.

My sister gave me a gift that came with a plastic bag that read:

Wealth is of the heart and mind, not the pocket.

I’m excited to see where 2014 goes.  The last two seconds of this video seem to be a great precursor to the next 363.
